This allows merchants to charge for services via a charge placed on a consumer’s mobile phone bill. So for example, the consumer wishes to purchase a piece of content, they text into a service to request the content, they then receive a receipt confirming the amount to be charged, on confirmation this receipt has been delivered, the content is sent to the consumer. The Mobile Network Operator or Carrier places the charge on the consumer’s bill and an outpayment, which is net of the operator’s service fee, is payable to the merchant. Charge to Account
An evolution of Premium SMS is direct charge to account. This provides the same mechanism of allowing consumers to pay for services, without the need for SMSs to be sent. An example of this could be a consumer on a mobile website, wishing to purchase some content, they click on a button and the charge is placed directly on their mobile phone bill. No need for any SMSs to enable the transaction to happen.
The level of outpayment is very similar to Premium SMS but this approach can suit some merchants better than others.
